Can you believe that 1/12 of 2006 is already over? Every year the time
seems to move a little faster and I move a little slower. I do want
to take just a word to thank all the faithful DonorExpress users
for your support last year. 2005 was a memorial year for nonprofit organizations.
The natural disasters were the big news and we saw people respond with
a gracious generosity. As with any event where an abundance is given
to a few, there are those who were not as fortunate. Our wishes for
2006 are for all nonprofit organizations to reach their financial goals.
Everyday I talk to and work along side of what I call the "back
office" crowd. These are the men and women who are pounding the
computer keyboards doing the tireless job of data entry or those who
pore over a database or spreadsheet to pull together a list of just
the right donor names for the next mailing. These are the people who
may never talk to a client or work with a patient but are the foundation
that supports the real work of an organization. You never see members
of this crowd accepting giant checks or shaking hands with well known
contributors. You can usually find them at their desk entering today's
mail, answering phones or planning the next event. It takes a special
person to be part of the "back office" crowd and my sincere
heart felt gratitude goes out to each and everyone of you. Thank you
for what you do.
Yes it's coming. I know that many of you are saying "you said fall"
or "the first of the year". A new release of any software
application is a huge undertaking and not one we take lightly. As you
know, we take much pride in offering sound user-friendly software and
this takes time. We are currently putting the finial touches on this
new release. As always the last 10 percent takes the most time. The
new release should be available in mid to late February. Your patience
has been appreciated.
Right Mouse Menu: The right mouse menu is a powerful database
tool and is available to use on many of the DonorExpress
screens. With it you can do a Find, Sort Ascending, Sort Descending,
Filter By Selection, and Remove Filter/Sort.
The Find button will allow the user to do a find on any field
on the first two tabs of the Donor Entry Screen. Place the cursor on
the field you wish to do the find on and click the right mouse button
to bring up the find window. This will allow the user to type in the
criteria for the search. Remember that the * wild card can be used to
increase the range of the search.
The Sort Ascending and Descending feature automatically sorts
the records in the selected field in ascending (A-Z)or descending alphabetic
order(Z-A). To sort the database by Last Name from Z to A, put the cursor
on the Last Name field and click the right mouse button. At the menu
select Sort Descending.
The Filter by Selection is a powerful tool that will allow the
user to filter the database by a select text in a selected field. If
the user wants to work with only contacts in a certain city, then they
can find a contact in that city, highlight the desired city, put the
cursor back over the highlight and click the right mouse. At the menu
select the Filter by Selection option to filter the database to contacts
just in that city. Now use the Next, Pervious and Last buttons to work
the contacts.
Right click the mouse again and select Remove Filter/Sort to
remove any filters or sorts return all the records to view.
Learning the right mouse menu can help make database management a lot
easier. As always if you need further information about the Right Mouse
feature, please drop us an e-mail.
